Dec. 19 (Bloomberg) -- Coffee prices fell for the first time in four sessions (phiên) as the dollar’s rebound (bật lại) eroded the appeal (hấp dẫn) of commodities priced in the U.S. currency.
The greenback (giấy bạc) advanced (tăng giá) as much as 2.7 percent against a basket of six major currencies, following a 0.7 percent gain (tăng lên) yesterday. The Reuters/Jefferies CRB Index of 19 raw materials (nguyên liệu) dropped for the third day in a row (liên tục).
“The dollar is pretty strong now,” driving coffee lower, said Leonard Baskerville, a trader with Jurgens Bauer & Associates in New York.
Arabica-coffee futures for March delivery (hàng giao tháng ba) fell 1.55 cents, or 1.4 percent, to $1.1095 a pound on ICE Futures U.S. in New York. The price slipped 1.1 percent this week and is down 19 percent this year.
In London, robusta coffee for January delivery fell $60, or 3.2 percent, to $1,801 a metric ton on the Liffe exchange.
